Coming into the second round of the Stars of Karting Championship many drivers have switched to Adkins Power to propel them to the front in the Spec Racer category.
Throughout the weekend Spec Racer put on the best racing on track with many of the Adkins drivers at the front of the pack. In Saturday’s Final, Adam Johnson aboard a Top-Kart took the lead around half way and stretch a gap from second until the last lap when he made a mistake in turn one. This allowed Edward Fortier, another Adkins driver aboard a Arrow, to challenge for the win. Adam Johnson was able to hold on to take the win by the narrowest of margins. Zach Beard running on an Adkins powered First Kart rounded out the all Adkins Speed Center podium showing their domination of the class. Shane Walters also had a great result with an eighth place finish.
Sunday's Final looked to be another great showing for Adkins with Zach Beard jumping out to a big gap with the leader. Unfortunately the two wrecked early on. Adam Johnson came from 15th on the grid to take the lead just after halfway and set the fastest lap of the race. Johnson would end up finishing in fourth after falling back to seventh with just a few laps to go. Max Riddle also had a great drive with a solid fifth followed by Andy Lee in sixth and Matt Codalata in eighth.
Brandon Adkins came home with two solid top fifteen finishes which will help him move up in the points in Intercontinental A (ICA). Saturday was a great result with an eighth place finish. Adkins is now fourteenth in the East and will be heading to one of his favorite tracks, Shawano, WI, where he won both Spec Racer finals in 2006.
