The Adkins Speed Center crew has been hard at work with their busiest summer yet. The team has been competing in the Stars of Karting Championship, WKA Manufacturer’s Cup, and numerous regional series in the Midwest.
In the last two rounds of the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Adkins drivers from many different teams and chassis manufacturers have been taking wins and top five positions. Most classes in the series are littered with green fin motors at the front of the pack. The first event of the summer months was the WKA Grand Nationals in Shawano, WI. Chris Wehrheim, Brandon Adkins and Matt Codalata had a great showing. Wehrheim swept the whole weekend with pole, Prefinal, and the Grand National win with Adkins in third followed by Codalata in fifth. Ryan Stewart and Wehrheim were the class of the field in Yamaha Lite taking a 1-2 finish with Stewart taking home the Eagle. Cale Wyse took a dominating win in HPV Heavy pulling away every lap. Chris Larson also took home a win with an Adkins motor in Sr. Sportsman Lite with a last lap pass for the win. Other notables in the senior classes were Mike Giessen, Ryan Stewart, and Chris Larson with numerous podium positions. In the Junior Categories Josh Call and Colton Ramsey showed very well with three top fives between the two of them.
The following big event for the team was the fourth round of the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Championship at Beaverun Motorsports Complex. The last time the series attended Beaverun the weather did not fair too well with freezing temperatures and snow. This year would prove to be much nicer with perfect racing conditions. Ryan Phillips, Mike Giessen, and Chris Wehrheim collectively took home four wins in Senior competition with Wehrheim winning in both TaG and HPV Lite, Phillips in Sr. Sportsman Lite, and Giessen in Yamaha Lite. Ryan Phillips also finished second in Yamaha Sr. Sportsman Heavy with Ryan Stewart in fifth. Other top fives include Wehrheim with a third in Yamaha Lite, Kyle Wiegand with a third in TaG followed by Matt Codalata in fourth and John Ferris in fifth, Kim Carapellatti with a fifth in Yamaha Heavy, and Cale Wyse with two second place finishes in the HPV Classes. Making his first appearance in the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup, Dakota Bell came home with the Yamaha Jr. Sportsman win. He followed this up with a fifth in HPV Jr. Sportsman after coming from last. Colton Ramsey had another great outing with a fifth in Jr. Supercan Lite and HPV Jr. Lite. Josh Call once again finished on the podium with a third in Jr. Supercan Heavy.
The last major race during the summer months was the final round of the Stars of Karting East Championship. Coming into this round, four of the top five competitors in Spec Racer points were Adkins drivers. Adam Johnson was the top-finishing driver with a win on Sunday that awarded him with a second place finish in the championship. Edward Fortier had two strong top-ten finishes that helped him finish third in the East. Zach Beard would finish third in Sunday’s Final, which put him in sixth in the standings.
Coming up this fall for Adkins Speed Center is the season finale for the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup at New Castle Motorsports Park, the final round of the Stars of Karting West Championship, Stars of Karting season finale, the Robopong 200 and the SKUSA SuperNats.
